Experiances Essay, Research Paper
It is sometimes hard for people to imagine that their parents were once their age and went through the same experiences that we did. Although people often learn best through trial and error, the negative experiences could have been avoided by listening to our parents in the first place. Everyone has been placed in certain situations and regret not listening to their parents.
A lot of trust and responsibility is put on a teenager when they turn sixteen, but along with that comes consequences if this freedom is abused. My sister recently turned sixteen and along with that came a new car and new responsibilities. My parents gave permission for a friend and her to go to a church activity that weekend. Her instructions were to go straight there and to call them, then call again before coming straight home. The next day my parents happened to find out that she never went. So consequently her driving privileges were taken away and she was put on restriction. Suffering this punishment she knew she should have listen and done what they had told her.
Each Halloween children dream of collecting large amounts of candy. Before every child leaves their parents worn them not to eat too much candy or they will upset their stomachs. As we all know the children got sick from eating too much candy and regretted it, the next day for not listening to their parents. Even though they suffered, the candy still tempted them enough to repeat the whole process over again.
Parents, often set their own curfews for their children’s protection. One Friday night a friend and I were out with some of our other friends. Our parents told us that we needed to be home by midnight so that we weren’t out past city curfew. As the time got closer we decided that if we were a little late it would not matter. So at about one a.m. we were driving home and got pulled over by a police officer and were cited tickets for exceeding the curfew. When I got home and had to tell my parents what happened they didn’t even have to say the words “I told you so,” because I already knew.
Parents also care about their children emotionally as much as they do physically. When getting involved in a new relationship I was warned not to get too attached. I acted against them and became very close to my new boyfriend. Every thing was going great until he left for college. The long distance was too much to handle and we broke up. I felt completely devastated and emotionally drained. Although my parents were there to comfort me, they also made me admit that I should have listened to them in the first place.
Even though I already know that parents often know what is best, we still struggle to listen. It seems like we often learn better through trial and error. Sometimes we forget that our parents have gone through these experiences and just don’t want us to go through the same thing. Next time we are given any advice from our parents, we might listen to it instead of acting against it.
