If You Take A Minute To Look At A Cookie… Essay, Research Paper
Cookies and doughnuts are incredibly satisfying treats. They both are baked goods that make our tummies warm, and leave a dusting of sugar on our lips. Doughnuts, along with cookies, can be considered awfully sweet, yet they are completely different. They both are distinct in their individual means of ingredients, cooking and traditional settings for consumption.
There are very few things you can do to ruin a simple chocolate chip cookie if you follow the recipe. The main ingredients for cookies include flour, sugar, water, eggs, and butter. These are all typically found in any kitchen. Because of this, cookies are relatively easy to prepare. Chocolate chips, nuts, and fruits are frequent mix-ins in many cookie recipes. They add extra flavor, color, and texture to any dull cookie. Pre-made cookie dough can be purchased at the supermarket. Pre-made cookie dough eliminates the mess of mixing, and makes the task of baking cookies even easier.
After measuring and combining all ingredients for your cookies, you place small portions of cookie dough on a baking sheet. Cookie Dough can be balled up, cut into shapes, or even made into a sheet depending on what resulting shape you want. You then place the sheet into a conventional oven and bake at 375 degrees. The cookies will turn golden brown when they’re done. After being cooled for a few minutes, the cookies can be served.
Unlike cookies, doughnuts usually are not made in the home, hence all of the doughnut shops: Krispy Kreme, Winchels, Daylight Doughnuts. Even though doughnuts are made with the same ingredients as cookies, they are more complicated to make. Doughnuts do contain another main ingredient, yeast. The yeast gives doughnuts a more bread-like quality and adds tiny air pockets that make the dough rise. After the dough has risen, it can be shaped into the familiar ring shape. This can be done by rolling the dough into snake-like portions. More commonly, the dough is spread thickly over a flat surface, then a device much like a multiple cookie cutter is used. The popular doughnut shop Krispy Kreme has developed a doughnut extrusion process that results in their distinctive rosette shape with curved vertical ridges on the sides.
After the doughnut dough is shaped, it is cooked using hot oil or fat. This oil is at a much higher temperature than that used to bake cookies. The dough is then cooked to produce a golden-brown crust on the outside while still maintaining a soft core. Toppings such as sugar may then be applied. This consists of little more than putting sugar and flavoring on the outside of the doughnut in the form of icing, powered sugar, or a glaze. This creates a shell of sugar coating for the doughnut. Adding fruit or nuts to the dough before cooking can change the taste and texture of the doughnut. Jelly or custard is sometimes added after cooking to create a tasty cream filled treat. This is done through injection.
The only thing to do after making scrumptious cookies and delectable doughnuts is to devour them. Cookies and doughnuts are made with precisely the same ingredients allowing your dentist and your mother to agree that they will rot your teeth. In many respects, cookies and doughnuts maintain countless differences, especially in traditional settings for consumption. How can people not think twice about a doughnut for breakfast, and in contrast, a cookie would be out of the question? What kind of parent would feed their child cookies for breakfast? Is eating a fried, sugary, pastry a doughnut– really a healthy way to start your day off? A dessert or bed time snack of milk and cookies is acceptable. Though, this leaves doughnuts only for breakfast?
As plainly illustrated, both cookies and doughnuts are sweet indulgences, using familiar ingredients and additives. Even though cookies and doughnuts contain the same ingredients, they still maintain a countless quantity of differences that keep them in their own delicious groups.
