David Berkowitz in whom he?d like to call himself the ?Son of Sam?. ?Sam? was a 6,000-year-old man inhabiting the body of a neighbor, Sam Carr. David also believed that Sam ordered him to kill. He also believed that Sam Carr?s dog ordered him to kill.

David Berkowitz?s reign of terror lasted from October of 1976 to August of 1977 when he was finally captured due to a parking ticket. During the reign of his terror he was also known as ?the .44 caliber killer?.

David pleaded insanity. Many doctors and psychiatrists were involved in the trial. Some saying he was sane other insane. Eventually the doctors came to a final decision that David understood the charges being held against him and that he was sane and could proceed with the trial.

Ira Jultak and Leon Stern were appointed to defend David. The chief prosecutors in the case were Eugene Gold, Mario Merola, and John Santucci. The judges in the case were Joseph R. Corso, William Kapelman, and Nicholas Tsoucalas.

The crimes that were charged against David were Second-degree murder, attempted murder, and assault. He was charged for second-degree murder because he murdered 6 people with his .44 caliber. He was charged for attempted murder because he also wounded 7 other people on his reign of terror.
