Louisa May Alcott Essay, Research Paper

Louisa was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania on November 29, 1832. Her parents, Bronson and Abigail May Alcott decided to name their second daughter after her aunt, Louisa May Green. Her father was a noted New England Transcendentalist philosopher and educator who worked only irregularly throughout Louisa May’s life. Her mother, Abigail May, was descended from the witch-burning Judge Samuel Sewall and the noted abolitionist Colonel Joseph May. Besides Louisa, they had three other daughters, Anna, Abby May and Elizabeth or ?Lizzie?.

At an early age, Louisa and her family moved to Boston, Massachusetts where her father pursued his teaching career by setting up the Temple School. In 1840 the family moved to Concord where prominent American author and close friend of the Waldo Emerson, helped the family to set up residence.
