In The Name Of The Fatehr Essay, Research Paper
It is a film, which impressed me a lot. Watching it a lot a feelings like anger, joy, compassion and hate passed in my mind. It was also the wonderful performance of the actors that made it look like the real story it represented. The role of Gerry was one of most realized one but I think it wouldn’t have worked if he weren’t surrounded from the other actors and especially from his father. It is true that at the beginning also influenced from the trial and the injustice made to him Gerry didn’t want to listen to his father but with time passing he became consent and understood that he wasn’t lost and that maybe there was a way out. An important role had also the lawyer because she encouraged Gerry and his father and also because she showed to the people the injustice made in their trial. The highest point in this film was the death of Gerry’s father. It was a real sorrow and it was also a critical point for Gerry. He showed that he wasn’t anymore the careless boy of the beginning but a mature man that even though his heart was broke and full of anger, he was still able to fight and show the truth to everyone. I think this is the most import idea of the film, the idea that an innocent man should never stop fighting to prove his innocence even if he has to fight against the whole judiciary system. There is a nice ending where the dominant words are: “Case dismissed” even if they sound funny after 15 years of imprisonment and this makes us think of the epilogue and maybe the release of the four was an epilogue but I don’t think so. I would like to say what I think an epilogue could be. Revenge is for me the right word in this case. Maybe after the happiness of being free one can forget this word but I don’t think it is possible for Gerry. I don’t think that after being imprisoned for fifteen years for something he didn’t commit and after seeing his father dying, it is hard for him to stop his revenge toward the people that imprisoned him. His only guilt was being at the right place in the wrong moment and also the most important thing was being an Irish. The story should have continued with the trailing of the police officer who hide the prove of their innocence and also with the dismissing of his father’s case. This is what I think could have been the right epilogue of this film.
