Immigration Regulation Essay, Research Paper
In reference to the article, I personally believe that immiigration should be
regulated, and restricted, however that it should not be shut down
completely.
It is true that the majority of United States citizens today are, or at least at
some point were, immigrants from another country. The whole founding of
our country was the result of European immigrants fleeing their respective
countries. Because we are already so diverse and probably one of the most
multiethnic countries in the world, I think it would be both pointless and
disruptive if we shut our doors now. Much of what makes America great is
the fact that we are so varied in our makeup.
However although I do believe that we should not shut our borders to
immigrants into the country, I do believe that there should be several
restrictions on those entering our country and becoming our citizens. For
those who we let in will inevitably become a major part of the future of our
nation, and for this reason should undoubtably be checked out before hand.
Many of the top minds in the United States today in fields such as physics
are the result of migration of scientists from other countries such as Russia
into our own. These immigrants play a vital and profitable role in our society
both socially and economically, and are a great part of what make our
country the
pwer it is today. However unfortunately a large number of immigrants are
also on our nations welfare currently. Coming into the country they choose
not to seek out work but instead leave off the money the government gives
them, money which American citizens have worked long and hard for.
It is these people which I feel we should be weary of admitting, and reluctant
to give citizenship.
Overall, I personally believe that immigration plays a substancial role
in our countries prosperity, and is one of the main reasons why we are the
nation we are today. From George Washington to Bill Clinton our entire
nation is built upon the existance of immigrants, and their descendants. For
this reason I think it would be proposterous to suddenly close our doors to
the one thing which made us great. However for the sakes of those already
living here, hard-working Americans both native born and otherwise, I think
that we should be selective in our admittance of foriegn immigrants. Before
there acceptance as American citizens I believe all potential people should
be screened for possible disease, handicap, and most importantly they should
be sceened for potential to become a productive, beneficial member of
American society.
