Compare And Contrast Angiospermsa To Gymnosperms Essay, Research Paper
1.The two groups of seed plants are the gymnosperms and angiosperms. Gymnosperms and Angiosperms are similar in that they both possess vascular tissue: Xylem for the conduction of water and dissolved minerals, and phloem for the conduction of dissolved sugar. They both have life cycles with an alternation of generations. All gymnosperms and flowering plants are heterosporous and produce two types of spores, microspores and megaspores. They are also very different in many ways. One, gymnosperms usually produce seeds that are exposed on the scale of cones and the ovules are unprotected. On the other hand, angiosperms produce their seeds within a fruit, and the ovules are protected. Unlike those of gymnosperms, the ovules of floweing plants are enclosed within an ovary. Gymnosperms produce pollen grains, a feature that seedless vascular plants lack. Many flowering plants use wind, insects, or other animals to transfer pollen grains. The growth habit of gymnosperms is in anb are with woody tees and shrubs while the growth are of an angiosperm is woody or herbaceous. The conducting cells in xylem for gymnosperms is trachedids, while it is both vessel elements and tracheids for angiosperms.
