Edgar Allan Poe had one of the greatest impacts on American Romantic and Gothic literature. All the grief that he put up with he put into his short stories and poetry. He could translate anything bad that came into his life in to words this is one of the ways he would cope with things and he was great at it.
Edgar Allan Poe?s mother died when he was two years old after his father left the family about a year prior. ?His mother died at the tender age of twenty-four dealt two-year-old Edgar a crushing blow, form which he never quite recovered.?(The language of literature author study, p194.) So the Allan family who was a friend of the mother adopted him. He went on in life to become a struggling writer no one knew him and wanted to buy his works. In about the year 1835, he got his first big break as a writer and become the editor of Southern Literary Messenger in Richmond. About a year later he married his cousin Virginia who later died of pulmonary tuberculosis. ?By this time, Poe was a wreck emotionally, physically, and mentally.?(The language of literature author study, p196.) Poe died at the age of forty he was diagnosed with congestion of the brain. Or some like to believe he died of a broken heart he just couldn?t take the stress of everyone close to him passing away. ?He remains a figure of shrouded in mystery.? Edgar Allan Poe was one of America?s finest most define poetry writers we have ever seen. Two of his most defining poems were the Raven and. That?s only two poems out of the forty-nine poems that Edgar wrote over his twenty-three year period of writing poetry, short-stories, and detective stories. While, as one is so dreary and bleak and yet the other just for a beat of rhythm. It is truly astonishing how a man can write so deep dark and cryptic and come up four years later with a poem strictly made for rhythm. This really shows poise, clearness in this mans mind that he can compensate to completely different pomes and make them both great.
Over his twenty-three year period of writing Edgar started writing detective stories he was the first writer to ever do this he started a revolution of writing these stories. Two of the three detective stories that he wrote were the Purloined Letter and the Murders in the Rue Morgue. This made a great deal of impact on the way Edgar Allan Poe changed American literature, art, and the world in general. These are the first two detective stories ever written anywhere in the world. Edgar has one of the most creative minds ever known to man with all the torment he was put through his whole life to come back and make great stories. He takes and grasps things that has happened to him in his life and manipulates them into stories that is his way of compensating for what has happened to him in his life.
He began to write short stories over his career as a writer. A lot of his short stories were some of his horror and or detective stories. He wrote sixty-seven short-story books over the body of his career as a writer two great short stories are The Tell Tale Heart and The Masque of the Red Death. They are both dealing with death and despair The Masque is dealing with hundreds of death, while The Tell Tale Heart is more into one murder that turns into a mental case of a man who can only hear the mans heart beating under the floor boards.
Over twenty-three years of writing Edgar Allan Poe has changed the lives of writers all over the America and still is today. Through his heart ships he became a great writer who knows if he had a perfect life if would of still made this big of an impact on American history. With his amazing self-stability to stay alive after everything that happened to him and write amazing amount of writings over his whole career.
