Franklin and the Gout

1. To merit his sufferings, Franklin has been lazy and ate too much.

2. Franklin spends his mornings reading newspapers and pamphlets.

b. After dinner Franklin’s practice is playing chess.

3. When you step on your feet you pump the fluids around, this helps by producing heat. All of this motion makes your cheeks ruddy, fluids shaken, humors attenuated, and secretions facilitated.

4. The Gout bases her argument on Franklin’s sluggish behavior.

5. The gout knows that Franklin will be true to his promise for a while, but then forget about it.

b. The Gout assures him that he will return at the proper time and place.

6. I think that Franklin wrote this because he was stuck in his house for a long time and was bored. He might have had a lot of time to think about his life or he might have been writing it as an answer for his question about suffering.

7. Franklin liked to work on his intellect more than his physical self. He spend too much time eating, reading, playing chess, and riding in his carriage. His story tells us that he was lazy and reluctant to partake in physical activity.

8. I think that most people today don’t get enough exercise. Most people don’t consistently exercise at all. That is why the United States has so many over weight people ( The food also makes a big difference). Since the invention of the car people have not got the exercise that they need to stay healthy.
