Old Home Vs New Home Essay, Research Paper
While I love going to Romania as much as ever, the convenience of the United States of America keeps me here, leaving the temptations of Romania only as memories from my childhood and a place to visit. Visiting Romania It?s like going to the best vacation where I can eat my favorite food and drink natural flavored drinks. On the other hand living in the United States is quite different in comparison to living in Romania on a huge farm with a lot of land and animals around. Comparing the two places is like comparing an apple to a pear, which is totally different in look, shape, and color. After living in Los Angeles for the past four years I have noticed the differences between the two countries and how the lifestyles differ from each other; the differences are: Romania is less crowded than Los Angeles, the houses are a lot larger, and Romanians live a much more relaxed life than most people in America.
To begin with, living in Romania on a big farm for eighteen years is a little bit different than living in a big crowded city such as Los Angeles. I remember when I was back home and I had to get up early to feed all of the animals before I could go to school. Living on a big farm where you have a lot of land and animals to take care of is not at all easy. On the other hand, there were good things about it because I did not have to go to the market and wait in line for hours to get some bread and milk. However, I had friends who had to because they did not live on a farm. Now that I am living in a crowded city like Los Angeles, here I do not have to struggle to wake up early before the sun does. Now that I don?t have to deal with animals my life is completely different and a lot easier, but some way is boring. Going to the market where is a quick 20-minute trip and I just pick everything I need for at least a week, which is very convenient. Of course, they are different countries, which implies a different lifestyle.
Likewise, In Romania I was used to living in a big house, where everybody has plenty of space, like large bedrooms, bathrooms, living room, and a big playroom. Then behind the house it was the yard with the swimming pool and a huge garden followed by rows of fruit trees. At the end of the garden runs the big river, which is similar in size to the Colorado River. In the front yard there was a water fountain and a long driveway with nice pine trees all the way up to the road. Here in Los Angeles there is a huge difference between the housing situations; the living style is quit different. Lifestyle in Los Angeles is living in a small apartment for almost too much money, but you are close to anything you can imagine. Another thing is that there is no front or back yard, and if there is it?s very small with out a garden nor trees. The good part about it is that there is no hassle with collecting the fruits from the garden or keeping up the yard. Here if you want fruit you have to drive down to the market place and buy some, where in Romania I would go in the garden and get it off the tree. In America I have given up the freshness of the food for the convenience of the super market.
Similarly, people in Romania differ from people in United States. Romanians are less busy than people in the United States also Romanians have a more relaxing lifestyle because they do not work as hard. People in Romania are not motivated to work any harder because they would not gain anymore from it. Americans on the other hand, are constantly trying to get a better job or a more expensive car and they gain these things through working harder and longer hours. In addition, Romanians tend to have more time to socialize with neighbors and family, whereas in America, people tend to be too busy for these types of activities. In Romania, I knew all of the neighbors and their children, where in America I do not even know my next-door neighbor because they are so busy with their work.
All in all, I know that life in America offers more opportunity than in Romania and you can be more successful if you work hard, although I had to give up the relaxed lifestyle that I was used to. There are many times that I miss my home country because of my family and friends that are still there enjoying the social and comfortable lifestyle in Romania. At the moment I do not have a large home and huge garden, but I am able to go to school and work toward a career so one day I can succeed in living a more comfortable lifestyle in America. I will always miss the place where I grew up, but I will try to make America my new home.
