Robert Cormier

Robert Cormier was born on January 17, 1925, in Leominster, Massachusetts and has lived there for most of his life. He is the second of eight children in his family. When he was in elementary school his seventh-grade teacher read one of his poems and told him that it was very good and he could be a writer. When he was in college one of his teachers liked one of his stories so much that she submitted it to a magazine and that was his first ever published work (Presenting Robert Cormier).

After attending college he began his career in journalism. He first worked at WTAG radio station, he then worked at the Worcester Telegraph and Gazette and finally at the Fitchburg Sentinel. He won three major journalism awards writing for the Fitchburg Sentinel. In 1966 he gave up full-time journalism to concentrate on novel writing. His first three books were moderately successful until he wrote The Chocolate War that attracted many young readers to start reading his novels. Robert wrote many other popular books such as I am the Cheese, We All Fall Down and Beyond the Chocolate War and many others that are very popular. Robert Cormier currently lives in Leominster, Massachusetts with his wife after having four children and is still writing novels for young adults (Novels for Students).
