My report is on World War 1 and since you can tell all about it in just three

pages I will tell you about important things that have happen in World War 1. To

start out with, the cause of the war was the spirit of intense nationalism that

permeated Europe throughout the 19th and into the 20th century ,this was the main

reason why. On June 28, 1914 a boy by the name of Gacrilo Princip, age 19, fired

two shots one killed the nephew of Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria-Hungary

,which. He was the heir to the Austrian throne his nephew name was Archduke

Franz Ferdinand. The other shot killed his wife. The young boy was from a

Serbian revolutionary. On July 5, Austria-Hungary held Serbia responsible.

Germany sent Austria a blank check to support any action Austria-Hungary might

take against Serbia. On July 23, Austria sent some demands which they designed

to humiliate and virtually destroy the nation. Serbia did agree to some, but the

other demands were to outrageous. Because Serbia did not do them all, Austria

declared war with them. When the Russians heard about it they were going to

defend Serbia. On July 31 the Germans heard about it and told them to stop. So

Germany got their army ready for war. The Russians did not care about the

warning. Germany declared war on Russia on August 1. France came to the aid of

its Russian ally, together they declared war on Germany. The British was not sure

what they where going to do in the war, but as soon as Germany marched into

Belgium they wanted to fight against Germany , this happened on August 4. Italy,

was known as the Triple Alliance and did not want to be involved in the war all

they wanted was to become involved only for the defensive purpose?s. In August,

1914 the war begins. The system of alliances had brought the great nations of

Europe to war with one another.

1914

Sept. 1- Oct- The Russians defeated the Austrians in the Battles of Lomberg.

Sept. 6-9- The Allies stopped the Germans in the first Battle of Marine.

Oct. 21- Nov 17- Germany tried to reach the English Channel, but never reached

it because of the Battle of Ypres.

Oct. 30- A group by the name of Control Powers was joined by a group by the

named the Turks.

Feb. 18- Germany attempted to block Great Britain from parts of their land.

April 22- For the first time in the war the Germans used poison gases during the

Second Battle of Ypres which gave them some lead way.

April 25- Other Allied troops landed on a Peninsula called Gallipolt.

May 7- The German?s showed an upper hand when their submarine sank the liner

called Lusitania.

May 23- Italy just got in to the war and declared it on Austria-Hungary.

1916

Jan. 9- The British troops left from Gallipoti.

April 29- A guy by the name of Kut al-Amara from Mesopotamia which had

10,000 British troops surrendered to the Turks and lost that battle.

May 31- June 31- The British fleet fought the German fleet in the Battle of

Jutland.

June 4- Russia did not fight so much, they became pretty much offensive in

Eastern Galicia.

July 1- Nov. 18- The Allies started up fighting again and advanced in the Battles

of the Somme.

The first time, in the war, the British army was the first army to use tanks.

1917

Feb. 1- Germany started to take the war by using submarine warfare.

April. 6- For the first time in the war, the United States finally declared war on

Germany.

June 26- The First American troops stationed and landed in France.

July 31- Aug 9- The Germans broke up all of the Russian?s last offense.

July 31- Nov 9- The Germans stopped the Allies in the Third Battle of Ypres.

Nov. 20 – Dec 3- In a battle by the name of Cambrai, the Allies for the first time,

had a great tank attack.

Dec. 9- The Allies took over Jerusalem.

For a short summary of what we lost in the war and what happened is typed

below. The war which I mean, World War 1 began on July 28, 1914

because of the declaration of war between Austria – Hungry and Serbia is what

started the war. The war lasted four years, three months and 14 days. (Costs of

the whole war was about 186 billion dollars)-(Got off Internet). The death

population equal about 37, million people, 10 million where civilians. So at the

end of the war I think that we did not do anything but kill people.
