The story Henry and the Clubhouse is about a boy named

Henry Huggins and his everyday life as a child. Henry is a child who is about 11 or 12 years old growing up in the 1960’s. He works as a paperboy for the Journal.

The novel begins when Henry has nothing better to do but wait until it is time to deliver his paper route. Henry is constinly going to the refridgerator and getting food out because of bordom. Then Henry gets his idea, to build something out of scrap wood. He thinks about two things, a doghouse and a clubhouse. Henry then goes outside to ask people for some wood when he notices that his neighbor is going to the dump. Henry, thinking that he could find some wood there goes along with the neighbor. Henry forgets that he has to deliver papers and he runs home only to find his mom delivering the papers.

The next few chapters talk about Henry and his experances with a dog that moves in the house a few streets away from him. Since he got in trouble with the boss of the paper delivery company he has to get a new customer to keep his job, and he needs the job to buy some wood and other supplies to make the clubhouse that he wanted. Soon he takes intrest in the people in the house that was just moved into, so he could keep his job. When Henry goes up to the door of the new neighbors, his dog starts barking, then the neighbor opens the door and her dog runs out and the two dogs start to fight. Henry then appoligies for what happened and says he just came over to say hello.

Later on, on October 31st Henry and his dog go trick or treating. Everybody talks about the neighbor whose dog fought with Henry’s dog having the best food. Henry soon decides to go to the house, he belives the fact that him and his dog are both in costume will make sure the other dog doesn’t start anything this time.

Soon Henry goes to the house and the neighbor opens the door. The other dog gets scared by Henry and his dog’s costume and runs to hide under the couch. The neighbor instantly reconizes Henry and ask him why he hasn’t asked her for a subscription to the paper. Henry then explains that he was afraid of the other dog. Henry then gets her as a subscriber and he now has enough money to get everything for the clubhouse.

Him and his friends then build a clubhouse and decide that they need a secret code to protect the clubhouse. They sometimes sleep in there and enjoy Henry’s investment.
