Equality – (Racism, Anti-Semitism, World Trade Center Tragedy) Essay, Research Paper

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” This was the world-renowned quote preached by Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence in which our nation is based upon. Unfortunately, many people have forgotten about this. Now, we do not have everyone thought of as equal, and we have racism and anti-Semitism to blame. The people of our country have not followed the beliefs of our founding father, and have broken our country into many different groups, each unique in their own way. These two appalling ideas are similar in many ways. In order to reshape our country, I believe we need to put an end to both as soon as possible. Racism is the belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others. Racism has torn apart our country. No longer are we as united as we used to be. Although there was always racism, it was never as severe as it is today. Many people are racist, and there are not many ways to change this. The only way is for people to change themselves. There are always going to be people who have their own beliefs. There is no point in being racist. All it shows is self-insecurity. People are so self-doubting that in order to feel bigger, more superior, or tougher, they need to frown upon and ridicule other human beings merely for the reason that they have a different physical appearance. Many people feel that they are of a higher intelligence when they ridicule others. If people would stop being closed-minded, we would be a lot better off and stronger as a country. We are the United States of America, if people are not going to stay united and get beyond appearance, then there is no longer a point in having the word “united” in our nations title.

Anti-Semitism is another problem our country that must be put to an end. Anti-Semitism is policies, views, or actions that harm or discriminate against Jewish people. This problem was brought into effect after the unfortunate fatal battle known as the Holocaust. Adolph Hitler, a leader of a powerful military faction, overthrew the German government. These people, specifically Hitler and his followers, had the goal of taking over the world. In trying to do so, they murdered many innocent Jews, over 16 million to be exact. Adolph Hitler and the Nazis are a prime example of anti-Semitism. They had different beliefs then the Jews did; therefore, they wanted to wipe them off of the face of the earth, for they were an inferior people. Judging by the outcome of this brutal war, there is no point in anti-Semitism. Many lives would have been saved if people would respect people for who or what they are, and not what they believe in.

The events that took place on September 11, 2001, are the result of hatred of a different way of life. We are a democratic country; this means that freedom is our way of life. This is what mostly bothered the terrorists and caused them to act in this manor. For the insecurity of a group of people, thousands of innocent others lost their lives. Many people are devastated by this event. Loved ones and friends were lost to many. I feel that we should end the struggle and fight against other races, for we are only hurting ourselves.

Racism and anti-Semitism are both similar in many ways. Both of these have meaning that have to do with hatred against a group of people because of appearance or beliefs. Some people believe that there is only one way of life, which is always the way they choose and the rules they abide by. The problem with this is there are many different types of people who feel this way. Therefore, there are many different minorities and races who feel they should dominate and everyone else should follow their guidelines. If people would begin to respect each other, then we would not have as much of a problem in our nation.
