Reading, after writing is thought of by most of us as being one of the most difficult tasks ever known to mankind, which is one of the reasons we do not do as often as we are supposed to. Because of this our minds do not develop as quick as it is supposed to; making our brains work slower and because of this catastrophic result we are unable to absorb information as quick and as efficient as we are supposed to. Because the authors of “The Macmillan Writer” know about this dreadful occurrence they have developed an easier way of becoming a better reader and hopefully in result becomes a better writer. The authors have developed this method of easier reading by devising the process into three simple steps. The first step is getting an overview of the author deciding the level of credibility you will give him or her, reading the title even though not done by many of us helps us sometimes get a hint about what we are going to read. After getting an overview comes the second stage known as “Deepen your sense”, telling us to point out the main idea or thesis of the piece of writing, followed by evidence supporting the thesis. Then give your opinion about the story, read anything you didn’t understand over if you didn’t get it the first time around, refer to a dictionary in case you do not understand a word but first try getting the meaning through context clues. Finally comes the third and final stage called “evaluate the story” which is done by telling you to judge the story or give your opinion. There are five questions you need to ask when judging a persons piece of writing.
