Piercing Essay, Research Paper
Despite the wishes of my mother, bod mod is my thing. I have 12 piercings (currently, I’m getting more as soon as I’m all healed up) and 2 tatoos (one of which I just got today, by the by). This little essay is about my most resent acquistion; my nipple rings.
The first thing that you need to know is that my folks are both rather conservative. They have repeatedly warned me against coming home with a piercing in my face, other than my ears. They don’t care what else I do, but if they can see it while talking to me, then it gets torn out. And if you knew my father, you’d know that they’re serious. In their words, they don’t want their daughter looking like a drug addict. Considering where we live, it’s a valid fear. But I already had 4 holes in my lobes, one in my outer conch, and my belly button. So I was running out of places to puncture.
After graduation, I got hit hard core by the piercing fever. So I logged onto BME (where I always go when I’m looking for inspiration), and found the pictures of nipple piercings. They were so cute! And just the right mix of femmy and kinky that is quickly becoming one of my trademarks. I had found what I wanted to do. Unfortunatly, I had to wait almost 2 months before I could carry out my plan. At the time, I was working at a paper mill, and wanted to avoid any possibly uncomfortable situations. So I started to research where I wanted to get them done. I had gone to 21st Century Studio of Tatoo the fall before to get my belly button done, and knew I didn’t want to go back there. I hadn’t been given any choice about jewelry, and was all in all unimpressed by the whole situation. But what did I expect from a tatoo parlor? I had heard lots of ads for Black Hole on the radio, and decided to go check it out.
Built in a converted house, Black Hole is intimate, but not so much so that it could be called small. There’s a waiting area and the main desk downstairs, with several display cases of all kinds of jewelry. Upstairs is where the majic is. There are two or three old bedrooms that had the doors taken off, and curtains put up. They all had a reclining chair/table, a full length mirror, and a “moral support chair.” Plus, the best part, is they only do piercings, so you know that everyone there is competent in what they’re doing.
Finally, I was done at the mill. I decided to go on a Monday, September 18th. It was perfect timing. I was leaving that Friday for college, so all I had to worry about was keeping my mom in the dark about the rings for less than a week (she would freak if she even thought that I was considering getting something like my nipples pierced). Plus, then I would be away from my boyfriend during most of the initial healing period. I went by the high school after classes got out to pick up my best friend, who had agreed to go along with me for moral support. I even wore a sundress, so I wouldn’t have to fight with a bra (word to the wise: freshly pierced nipples are happier in a bra than when they’re allowed to flop about and rub up against everything). We drove down to the piercing shop, and I ate a package of PopTarts on the way. A good thing too, because one of the questions on the permission form was “Have you eaten in the last 4 hours?” Low blood sugar makes piercing more dangerous, as you’re at risk of slipping into shock after experiencing a trauma, such as getting a needle shoved into your flesh.
I went through the prerequisites, filling out the paperwork and picking out my jewelry (12g 1/2 inch sterling silver captive rings w/a pretty blue bead). Then Tracy came to get me and lead me upstairs. She had me take off my top, and she drew the dots, lining up the holes. Then she had me look at them in a mirror, and make sure they looked straight (I was getting them done horizontally) and in the right place. Then I layed down on the table, and she started taking everything from their little sterile packages. We did the deep breath in, exhale, deep breath in, exhale and pierce on the exhale. It was a more intense pain than I remembered from my belly button, but the adrenaline rush kicked in almost immediatly and the pain faded to the background. She had me stand up and check it out in the mirror. I loved it!!! Then I layed back down and did it again. I spent about five minutes in front of the mirror, just checking out my new toys.
That was seven weeks ago to the day. They’ve pretty well healed by now. They still get a little crusty, but a little saline solution on a Q-Tip does wonders to clean them off. I’ve gotten nothing but compliments on them, and my new boy enjoys them a lot. As do I. If you have any questions about my nipple piercings, or anything else, write me. Hopefully I can help you. I’m planning on getting my rook pierced at Christmas, so I’ll add another installment on that when the time comes.
