What I Did This Summer Essay, Research Paper
Cook Campus Center
This summer I was fortunate to have been employed by the cook campus center, as a student business manager. With careful review and reconciliation of the many books & journals I became a valuable asset in assisting the cook campus center to achieve its goals.
My responsibilities:
As an employee I had to follow all the guidelines and procedures of the Cook Campus Center. I had to stick to the expectations outlined in the Cook Campus Center Manager Manual. As an employee I should understand the basic responsibilities of my work, I should understand the concept of basic accounting, bookkeeping, and some finance would have helped. I also had to maintain a positive atmosphere for all participants by maintaining a friendly, helpful, courteous attitude in the office.
Cook Campus Center is one of the largest employers of students on campus. Immediate openings are generally available to those wishing to serve as office helpers, or helping in different parts of the campus center, example caf , front desk, and the Caf Cove. Individuals seeking these positions will be directed to the respective supervisors. Great consideration is given to each applicant s employment preferences, but final assignments will be based on the needs of the professional staff and the strengths and skills of the applicant.
NATURE OF WORK:
Working at the Cook Campus Center has been a blessing for the fact that you do not get to do the same thing twice. The work environment is very friendly but team-oriented with each individual working side by side. Each employee has their strength and weaknesses in different types of areas and that what makes it so unique.
Starting this co-op, I made some objectives one of them was to gain knowledge about the guidelines that mush be followed in operating a business. This objective I think I accomplished in the last couple of weeks of the co-op when I realized that it is very hard to run a business you have a lot of things that you have to worry about and thinking who to hire is not one of the big ones. I think that the biggest problem with running a business is the reconciliation for a particular month. You have to be on top of things when, what and who to pay the bills to. You also have to make shore that your bookkeeper knows what he/she is doing.
However there was one objective that I never unanticipated that I encountered working in the campus center. Until now I did not realize how much people are willing to help you out to make your life just that much easier, and this really surprised me a lot. One day I had about 102 questions in a mater of a second and my boss Dean Corley stopped what she was doing and helped me out with all the 102 questions that I had, this was something I never expected.
I think that classroom studies related to the work can help with establishing team builders and create a sense of teamwork. However the experience that you get from the actual work is priceless.
Summer Evaluation:
Pros:
Working in a friendly environment
Being a team player
Developing managerial skills
Developing communicational skills
One-on-one interaction with people
One-on-one interaction with the deans
Being talented in what I do
To realize my strength and weaknesses
To realize what I wan to do with my life after college
Cons:
Provide a good work or appreciation
Make sure everyone can understand one another better
Improving communication
Co-op has been one of the best things that I have done so far in College. I would recommend the experience to anyone. If I cold do it again would do it all over again. And make this time even more special.
