For my second activity I had to work three hours in the office of one of the elected officials. I worked at the Carl Kruger s office, he is our state senator. This project that I completed at Mr. Kruger s office at first scared me a little. I overcame my fears and I went to that office on March 9. People there were really nice to me and they helped me to understand what kind of work they do there. The office where I volunteered wasn t big but it was busy. A lot of phone calls and people that came there for help made that office a very busy place. People were asking for different things, but I remember one old lady that came there. This woman was sending a lot of money to different companies and they didn t send anything back to her. One of the workers wrote down things about those companies and they were going to sue them for that lady. Little things like that help a lot because sometimes people have nowhere to go to get help. My job there was not as hard as those workers, the first thing I had to do was to write addresses on the envelopes. These envelopes would go to people that wrote to Mr. Kruger. It wasn t hard but I had to do it right.The next thing I did I worked on the Xerox machine. The machines I used before were very easy, but this one was very complicated. I used a lot of paper for nothing, but workers weren t mad they just helped me with the machine.

I met different people there, all of them were interesting people. The workers were very helpful and nice to me, the visitors also were nice and some of them thought I worked there. This assignment turned out to be great working experience for me. Those people work hard for my community. The bad thing about it was that I didn t met Mr. Kruger himself, he was away in Albany. But now I know where his office is and if I would have questions for him I would just go and talk to him. This activity was very helpful and I learned a lot. I leaned that people can solve their problems by contacting their officials. The most important thing I learned from this activity is that state senator and all the people involved in their work are really concerned about the quality of life of the citizens. In conclusion I would like to say that this project helped me understand that participating in government is very important. I like working in that office it made me feel like an important person.
