Write A Close Analysis Of The Fight Explaining How Steinbeck Brings It To Life Essay, Research Paper
??????? The
fight started by Curley accusing Lennie that he was laughing at him.? Curley had just come back from the barn
after having an argument with Slim.? He
was being made a fool of in front of the other men, and he must have felt very
frustrated.? We know already that Curley
doesn’t like big guys, which immediately holds a threat against Lennie, and he
just sitting, smiling on the bed.??????? Steinbeck
uses lots of dialogue to create suspense.?
The fight is recreated in slow motion and he tells us every detail.? You feel very sympathetic towards Lennie
because he is so stupid he doesn’t fight back; instead, he just defends
himself.??????? In
the dialogue, Steinbeck uses lots of dramatic verbs to describe the contrast
between Curley’s actions and Lennie’s.?
Curley’s first action was: ?
"Curley stepped over to Lennie like a Terrier.? ‘?
What the hell you laughin’ at?" When Lennie replied with "Huh",
Curley lost it? ?
"Then Curley’s rage exploded."??????? Steinbeck
starts to build up the tension from the very beginning of the fight.? With Lennie, who is so stupid he doesn’t
know what’d hit him, his actions are passive; he just turns to George for
backup.? When he doesn’t help Lennie,
that increases our sympathy because he doesn’t know what to do. ?
"Blood welded from his nose.?
‘George’, he cried.? ‘Make ‘um
let ???
me alone."??????? Suddenly
there is a bid change.? Lennie reached
out and grabbed Curley’s hand.? In one
defensive action, Curley is crippled.?
Steinbeck uses a simile to end all of the action. ?
"Curley’s fist was swinging when Lennie reached for it.? The ???
next minute Curley was flopping like a fish on a line, and his fist ???
was lost in Lennie’s big hand."??????? Lennie
was so terrified that he just kept on clenching Curley’s hand.? The other men in the room came to Curley’s
rescue, before all of his bones in his hand were crushed!? Still feeling angry with Curley for starting
the fight, they thought they should help him never the less, and they took him
to the doctor.??????? Lennie
feels very confused about the fight.?
George was telling him to fight back, but when he did, he told him to
stop!? He felt very sorry that he had
hurt Curley.? George reassured Lennie,
saying that it wasn’t his fault and he should go and wash his face!??????? Steinbeck
gives a very detailed account of the fight.?
He creates a very clear picture in your imagination about every
action.? I liked the way he described
and wrote the fight; I think that it was very effective and the verbs really
brought it to life.??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? By
