Ten Commandments As A Basis For All Societies Essay, Research Paper
Mostly, The 10 commandments are basic, obvious things which people need to
abide by for society to work. The final four Commandments are essentials for a
group of people to live in harmony together. The most obvious one is the sixth
murder. If no one knew not to murder then we would all be like animals, and
there would be very few humans left. However, if you were not told not to kill
I think that society would become civilised in this way anyway after a very
short period of time as some order would eventually have to prevail for humans
to continue living. I disagree that the 10 Commandments are the ingredients needed for society
due the first 4 Commandments. They are all specific to the Jewish religion. A
society could still function quite happily without the need for a God.
Buddhists don?t believe in God, and atheists all over the world don?t either
and there isn?t a higher proportion of murderers or adulterers in those
cultures. However, it is a good idea to believe in god for a society because it
focuses its needs and ideas towards more moral things, however it is not
essential, especially the third commandment ? ?thou shall not take thy lord?s
name in vain.?
All the Commandments that are relevant to all people however, do, in my
opinion, make up the basic ingredients for all civilised societies
because
all other laws stem from them ? secular and, when relevant, religious. This
is shown by the fact that the three main world religions ? Christianity,
Judaism
and Islam, do actually use the 10 Commandments as their starting point for
moral and political law.
