The name of the book: TWENTY AND TEN

Setting: The setting is a farmhouse on a mountain in France. The kids moved up there from France,

because of World War II. The children were at a boarding school.

Characters: The characters are Janet, George, Philip, and Henry. Also, there are Louis and Denise. They are all about 10 years old and in the fifth grade, except for Louis, who is 4 years old. Louis is Denise’s brother. All the other children are friends. Sister Gabrielle is helping the children and she is a nun.

Plot: This story starts out with the children playing make-believe. They are flying to Egypt. A young man arrives and asks the nun if they will take in 10 Jewish refugees. They do. Next they explain to the children that they can’t allow anyone know that the refugees are there. The children learn to share their food with the refugees.

Conflict: The food shortage is a huge problem. The second problem is that the Nazis are near by. The Jewish refugees cannot receive ration cards, so the 20 other children share their food with them.
