Scene 1 Act 1:Scene one opens with a fight on the streets of Verona between servants from the Montague and Capulet households. While attempting to stop the fight, Benvolio is drawn in by Tybalt. The heads of both houses (Montague and Capulet) arrive on the scene. Prince Escalus arrives and stops the fight, forbidding any further brawls. Montague and his wife discuss Romeo?s strange behavior with Benvolio and ask him why he is acting that way. They find Romeo and have Benvolio talk to him. Benvolio advises him to forget Rosaline, but Romeo refuses.
Scene 2 Act 1:Paris asked Capulet if it would be all right if he could marry Juliet. Capulet is not sure because Juliet is so young, however he ends up agreeing with Paris. Capulet invites Paris to the feast. He sends off the guest list with a servant, that can?t read the names. He meets Romeo and Benvolio and asks them for help. Romeo noticed that the list had Rosaline on it, so he dared to go to the feast to meet with her. Benvolio again suggests to Romeo that he should forget Rosaline, he again refuses.
Scene 3 Act 1:Lady Capulet talks to Juliet about marriage then tells her about Paris? proposal. When lady Capulet tells Juliet that Paris will be at the feast, Juliet doesn?t act too excited. Nurse responds for Juliet with something that Lady Capulet wanted to hear.
Scene 4 Act 1:Romeo, Benvolio, Mercutio, and other members of the Montague house go to the Capulet feast. They are all wearing masks to hide their identity. They talk it over and decide to stay for one dance. Because Romeo is still in love with Rosaline, Mercutio teases him about being a hopeless lover. Mercutio then starts a long tale about how fairies deliver dreams to humans as they sleep.
Scene 5 Act 1:Romeo, Mercutio, Benvolio, and the servants arrive at the feast in masks. Capulet is there at the door to greet them. Capulet talks to his cousin about how long ago it was when they took part in a masque. Romeo sees Julies and falls in love with her immediately. Tybalt recognizes Romeo?s voice and is ready to fight. Capulet stops Tybalt and tells him to ignore Romeo for now and try to keep the peace. Romeo and Juliet keep talking and end up kissing, Nurse runs in the middle of them and tells Juliet to go find her mother immediately. When Juliet was looking for her mother Romeo asked the Nurse who Juliet is and found out she was a Capulet. The feast was about over so Romeo; Mercutio, Benvolio and the others left. Juliet was talking to the nurse and found out that Romeo was a Montague
Scene 1 Act 2:Romeo climbs over the orchard wall when he hears Mercutio and Benvolio approaching. His friends don’t know that he has fallen in love. Romeo still stays hidden, Benvolio gets Mercutio to leave without Romeo.
Scene 2 Act 2:Romeo is hidden under Juliet?s bedroom window. Juliet steps out on to the balcony, not knowing Romeo is there. She reveals her love for Romeo. She asks herself why a name can split two lovers apart. After they both exchange feelings on how much they love each other, Nurse calls for Juliet. Juliet leaves to go to Nurse, but returns for a moment. They both agree to marry in secret. Juliet tells Romeo that she will send a messenger the next day so Romeo can tell her what the wedding arrangements are. At daybreak Romeo leaves to get advice from Friar Lawrence.
Scene 3 Act 2:Romeo makes arrives at Friar Laurence?s cell as day breaks. Laurence is collecting herbs and other plants. Romeo tells him how much he loves Juliet and asks him to marry them later on that day. The Friar is not sure about how quickly Romeo has completely forgotten about Rosaline and went for Juliet, but agrees to help them.
Scene 4 Act 2:Mercutio and Benvolio go looking for Romeo that morning. Benvolio finds out that Tybalt has challenged Romeo to a duel. Romeo arrives and starts talking to Mercutio. The Nurse shows up with Peter. Mercutio starts getting cocky with Nurse. Benvolio and Mercutio both leave the scene. Romeo talks to Nurse and makes arrangements to get married that day.
Scene5 Act 2:When the Nurse gets back she messes around with Juliet by complaining about her back and other pains instead of just giving her the news of the wedding. The Nurse finally gives her the news.
Scene 6 Act 2:Romeo and Friar Lawrence are in the church waiting for Juliet. The Friar still isn?t too sure about the marriage and how quickly Romeo changed his mind.
Scene 1 Act 3:Benvolio and Mercutio are wandering around when they run into Tybalt. Tybalt says he is looking for Romeo. Mercutio starts antagonizing Tybalt to start a fight. Tybalt tries to draw Romeo into a fight be insulting him, Romeo still refuses to fight. Tybalt and Mercutio start fighting, to try to stop the two of them Romeo steps in between the fight, Tybalt stabs Mercutio under Romeo?s arm. Mercutio died from the wound saying ?a plague to both your houses?. Tybalt killing Mercutio finally got Romeo fired up enough to fight him. The fight ends with Romeo killing Tybalt. Romeo takes off as the Prince arrives. After Benvolio told the Prince what happened the Prince banishes Romeo from Verona with the death penalty.
Scene 2 Act 3:Juliet is eagerly waiting for Romeo so they can celebrate their wedding that night. The Nurse arrives and leads Juliet to believe that Romeo has been killed. Juliet eventually finds out that is Tybalt that has been killed. When Juliet heard that Romeo has been banished she becomes very sad. The Nurse tells Juliet that he is hiding at Friar Lawrence?s cell, Juliet sends Nurse with a ring for Romeo.
Scene 3 Act 3:Romeo finds out that he has been sentenced to banishment rather than death, from Friar Lawrence. The Nurse arrives and tells him how sad Juliet is, after hearing that news Romeo tries to kill himself. Romeo ends up going to Juliet that night anyway just as he has planned. The Friar promises to announce their marriage publicly so that he will be pardoned.
Scene 4 Act 3:Capulet and Paris are talking about how Tybalt?s death has delayed the marriage. As Paris is walking away Capulet makes the decision for Juliet and tells him that she will marry him on Thursday. Lady Capulet goes to tell Juliet the news.
Scene 5 Act 3:Tuesday morning Romeo meets with Juliet one last time before he leaves to Mantua. Lady Capulet arrives while Juliet is crying about Romeo leaving. She tries to make her feel better by telling her plan to poison Romeo, which made Juliet feel even worse. She finally gives her the news that she will marry Paris on Thursday. Juliet says she can?t be married so quick. Capulet enters expecting Juliet to be happy about the decision he made for her about the wedding. When he sees that she doesn?t like his decision he gets furious. Capulet threatens to disown her if she doesn?t go along with the wedding. Nurse tells Juliet to go along with the wedding because Paris is such a nice young man. Juliet leaves to Friar Lawrence.
Scene 1 Act 4:Later that morning Paris tells Friar that he is getting married in two days. Friar tells Paris that the wedding has been arranged too quickly. Juliet arrives without Paris noticing and asks Friar Lawrence for help. Friar gives Juliet a sleeping potion that she has to take on Wednesday. The potion will lead everyone to believe she is dead. He says he will tell Romeo of his plan.
Scene 2 Act 4:Juliet goes back home and sees everyone getting ready for the wedding. She tells her father that she will let everything go as planned and marry Paris. Capulet gets so excited he moves the wedding to that following morning, so Juliet has to take the potion that night.
Scene 3 Act 4:That night she kind of doubted the Friar?s decision to take the potion, but ended up taking it. She wonders what will happen if the potion doesn?t work and she dies.
Scene 4 Act 4:Late that night and early that morning everyone is still awake (except for Juliet) preparing for the wedding. When Paris arrives Capulet tells Nurse to go wake Juliet up.
Scene 5 Act 4:When Nurse goes to wake Juliet up and she won?t wake, she figures she is dead and screams to everyone. Paris, Capulet, Friar Lawrence, and Nurse all stand around Juliet?s body. Capulet changes the wedding preparations to funeral preparations.
Scene 1 Act 5:While Romeo is in Mantua, his servant, Balthazar brings him the news of Juliet?s death. Romeo plans to return to Verona. He buys some poison from a guy illegally.
Scene 2 Act 5:Friar Lawrence finds out that the messenger he sent to Mantua with the letter saying Juliet is alive didn?t make it in time to reach Romeo. Friar Lawrence then hurries to the Capulet tomb where Juliet lies, because it is almost time for her to wake.
Scene 3 Act 5:Paris arrives at the tomb to lay flowers. When he hears someone approaches him and his buddy hide in the bushes. As Romeo is trying to break into the tomb Paris confronts him Romeo tells him to leave but wont listen. They fight until Paris dies. Paris asks him to lay him next to Juliet in the tomb, so Romeo does. Paris? friend saw the fight; so after Rome went into the tomb he went to go tell the night watchman. When Romeo finds Juliet dead he drinks the poison and dies. A moment later Juliet awakens and the Friar arrives. The Friar tries to get Juliet to leave before some one finds them. When Juliet sees Romeo and Paris dead she tries to kill herself with kissing the poison off of Romeo?s lips. As the night watchman approaches she stabs herself with Romeo?s dagger. The night watchman Prince Capulet and Montague arrive in the tomb. The Friar confesses to what he has done and offers his life. The Prince instead blames it on Montague and Capulet, for the constant fight between them. He also blames himself for being so lenient on the two of them. To make up for it he fines them both heavily. The two families finally stop fighting as Prince ends the play saying ?For never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her Romeo.?
