The Unknown Trance
The question that most individuals ask is why do people commit suicide? It is a mystery to many, but through the help of groups, crisis intervention, advice, and even medicine, people are getting help that they need, yet so many more commit suicide or attempt it.
It is difficult for people who enjoy life to understand why others would want to end it. Suicide is not death, as much as it is a relief of ones problem. Those who have focused their thoughts on suicide have lost all hope. They no longer believe in good, only bad, dark depressed thoughts and feelings about themselves and they shut out the people around them and lock themselves away in their own minds. “They do not want to die as so much as not wanting to live as they are living” ( Unhappiness dealing with the past and the present may cause suicidal thought. Belief that their unhappiness is permanent may result in action. Most contemplating suicide is the lack of faith; they believe they are nothing and have nothing to offer to the world or anyone around them. This painful dependency on others leads to low self worth, which in return leads to a deeper dependency. To break this cycle individuals must develop control over their own personal well being and life. Therapy may be necessary to gain self-value again, and accept things for the way they are and move on. To really understand suicide, you need to know the reasons and feeling why, anyone thinks this, everyone thinks it sometime in there life and “No” it does not mean you are crazy. It is those who follow through with it, are the ones looking for help and guidance we just need to understand what it is that these people go through, and break them free, from the prison they are in. “Suicide is not an act; it is a way of perceiving ones self.” Depression is a big factor, fear of being alone and unwanted guilt and anger. A desire to be in complete control of ones life, along with change and irrational thoughts and behavior. Suicides feel boxed in with no remaining options available to alter their reality.
Now, dealing with the crisis of suicide. People who think of suicide suffer from a mental illness, the most common is depression, but it also depends on the person. In helping the individual look at the background and medical history, because depression triggers over 80% of suicidal victims. “Depressed victims are 24 more times more likely to commit suicide or at least attempt than people without mental illness” they can not take what is happening to them and most likely nothing is going right for them. There are over 300,000 suicides every year and the number continues to rise. There are over 500,000 attempts, and one out of those attempts over 80% succeed.
Crisis intervention, is a key role in helping prevent a crisis. 4 out of 5 people who kill themselves give definite warning signs, either verbally or behaviorally. 80% of the people who complete suicide have made at least one other previous attempt. Now there are facts and fables in dealing with suicide, such as people who talk about suicide do not commit suicide the actual act, this is false of the ten people who kill themselves 8 give definite warning signs, it does not run in the family, most suicides occur after “Improvement” suicides are undecided about living or dying, gambling with death or “Playing with fire as they put it.”
Continuing, there are many more factors that face suicide, especially in dealing with suicide. A big factor is teen suicide, particularly from 14 to 17, teenagers “Feel More”. This problem is compounded by the fact that many teens can’t or won’t talk to their parents. Teenagers commit much more suicide than older people do. Fact is that older people die a lot more of other causes then teens. Teens have “Almost” no heart problems, no cancer, no Alzheimer, no… etc. etc. etc. So when a teen does die of suicide it’s immediately very noticeable. Also, the media tends to report more on teen suicide than on other suicide, it is more dramatic. There is a lot of child abuse out there and most abused children never notice it. Imagine growing up in such a life. This in itself is nothing serious but it can become a life-threatening problem if a child has never learned to find value in life itself. The best way to help those pondering suicide is to support them 100%. Kind words, gentle advice and professional help can all make a difference, but sadly enough there are still thousands of suicides all over the world – everyone needs to work together to help fight this problem, by letting teenagers of today’s society know that there are always someone their to help them – whether it be in the form of a friend or loved one. Suicide is, as everyone hears, “A permanent solution to a temporary problem.” Suicide right now is rising because a lot of society problems have migrated towards our youth. Many people commit suicide to escape, to leave their current state, for hopefully a better place. Everyone has a different reason or wanting to commit suicide, but usually that reason hides the real reason. Suicide is not the answer, because life gets better, it’s just hard to see past the things that society throws in our faces. suicide will continue to be the answer for many victims, weather it be young or old, this must be stopped.
In conclusion, suicide rises every year even with help and intervention, it is imperative that this situation be prevented, through intervention, therapy, and above all just being there for the victim. Suicide is going to happen but one by one individuals can help, and that one person can make all the difference in the world by saving one life you reduce the factors of suicide to minimize attempts and suicides that happen every year.
