The Apology Of Socrates Essay, Research Paper
The Apology of Socrates,by Plato,is an important work of literature. Although written some two-thousand years ago,it shows us how our society is much like the one of Socrates. It shows how the equities and inequities of his time are like the one’s today. In reading the Apology of Socrates, one can learn how consistency can lead to equitableness.
Throughout th Apology of Socrates,Plato shows the reader how consistent Socrates is. He shows the reader how Socrates stands up for what he beleives in.Socrates shows his consistency by letting the jury know that the only way he would stop his practices and teachings, is death.
Another example of Socrates consistency, is not begging, and pleading for his life.SOcrates feels like he has done nothing wrong, and he does not care what happens to him, as long as he stands up for what he beleives in.Socrates feels that if he does not stand up for what he beleives in, he will be dishonored. Therefore, Socrates feels he will receive equitableness, whether he lives or dies.
Plato, lets his readers know that Socrates feels that justice will prevail after he is gone, through the youth that he has taught. SOcrates feels that the accusers will receive a much worse punishment then he. He knows the youth will no longer be restrained by him. He knows the youth will then become the accusers and be far more ungracious.
In conclusion, Socrates receives exactly what he wants, equitableness. He makes it distinctively clear that no matter what happens to him,the accusers will not be self-righteous, and he will.He knows that his consistent lifestyle of teaching truth, and wisdom, have not hurt people, but done nothing but help them go through self-evaluation, and obtain righteousness. He lets the judges know in the end that no wrong will come to him, whether he lives or dies, and that he is better off dying because he is being released from the hostillities of the world.
