How Velma & I Are Similar Essay, Research Paper

I’m a big cartoon fan, so the finding a character that resembled me sounded interesting. As I was trying to start I realized that choosing a character was going to be more difficult than I thought. After many hours of watching Cartoon Network, I finally ended up choosing Velma from Scooby Doo. Velma is intelligent, levelheaded, and observant. These are all traits that I see, and hope exists in me.

I suppose that intelligence is relative, but Velma has developed her intelligence through experience. She is usually the first one to put the pieces together and find the bad guy. In various episodes the gang is chasing a man dressing like a ghost to scare people. Velma is usually the first one to find the glowing paint, then tells everyone that it’s phosphorescent paint and that’s why it glows. I don’t use my intelligence to catch villains but it helps when I lock my keys in the car. To remedy the situation of locking my keys in the car, my friend taught me how to break in to my car. This way when it happens I’m not stranded. Once I tried it a couple of times I was able to get into my car no problem. Both Velma and I applied what we learned from experience to get out of a difficult situation.

Unlike Scooby and Shaggy, Velma isn’t thrown a panic every time she thinks she hears a noise or sees a ghost. She is usually the one to come up with a plan to capture it. She is calm and cool when it comes to monster chasing, and is usually the one to break down what happened for the audience. Velma always knows that there is a rational explanation for everything. I work at a place where everything is done at the last possible second and it is always of the utmost importance. Things get really crazy, and sometimes people do to. When it’s directed at me I just accept that it is a stressful day and write off what ever was said. I don’t maintain my cool being chased by monsters like Velma, but in my everyday situation I’m just as levelheaded.

I design brochures and presentations for the company that I work for, there is a great need to be observant while doing this so that you find all the mistakes before they go public. Velma is also observant. She finds the clues and pieces them together while everyone else is running around eating Scooby snacks. She notices the little things that are going on, or that someone left behind, always looking for the wire that makes the ghost levitate. I find little things like that in my work every day.

Experience, will poer and perceptiveness contribute to making an observant levelheaded and inteligent person. These are all attributes that Velma & I have, and use daily to get through the day without being killed by a giant monster.
