Car Salesman

The car salesman wore a suit and tie.

His patch of hair bore the remnants of dye;

his head was a slightly oily region,

smelling quite like the formula called Grecian.

His thin, waxy moustache off-set his teeth,

it circled his lips like a welcome wreath.

From lush polyester his suit was made;

he assured us the pinstripes were the finest grade.

A carnation in his jacket did lurk,

matching superbly the pink of his shirt.

His patent leather loafers were from France-

wearing them he couldn?t help but to prance:

a careful, deliberate step he took,

all the while glancing for every stray look.

Then he?d clap his hands and give a smile,

and pump your hand and talk for a while

about the things a man like he enjoys:

football and hockey and the quality of automobiles made by American boys.

His stash of cigars was tucked in his coat-

they were from Cuba, snuck in on a boat!

He?d light one himself, and offer another,

then he?d cut you a deal- better than he?d give to his brother!

A decent and friendly man was this guy

despite the glimmer and gleam in his eye.

His company came when needed it?s clear

in our quest that morn? for a warm glass of beer.
