Hurrican Report Essay, Research Paper
Hurricanes can be caused by many forces acting upon one anotherThe hurricane
must
form over ocean water that is 26.5* C. Hurricanes draw their energy from warm
waters. The
atmosphere must be unstable. The cyclone has to be at most 500 kilometers
from the equator,
because the Coriolis force is not present there. The Coriolis Force makes the
cyclone spiral and
maintain it?s low pressure. A high pressure area must be present above the
storm, which
pushes away the air that is rising from the storm. Hurricanes may not always
form in these
conditions, but they always have to be present.
Hurricane are categorized into 5 categories, starting with the smallest and
working its way
up to the largest Category I Hurricanes have winds of 118-153, storm surges
of 1.2 meters and
cause very little damage. Category II hurricanes have winds of 154 through
177. Storm surges,
swells, up to 1.7 meters and damage to shrubbery, mobile homes, and small
crafts. Category III
have winds from 178-210, storm surges up to 2.7 meters. Damage is done to
Trees, roofs, mobile
homes, some flooding occurs, and damage is done to roofs. Category IV have
winds from 211-
249. Storm surges get to an amazing 4.0 meters. Damage is done to all signs,
roofing, major
flooding, and evacuation is planned. Category V hurricanes, the most deadly
of all hurricanes has
winds of 250 plus. Enormous surges of 5.5 meters plus and damage is done to
nearly everything.
Hurricanes are born in the ocean no more than 500 kilometers from the
equator. The
water has to be warm and high pressure areas must be present.
Hurricane season affects the eastern coast, the Caribbean, and Central
America it
occurs from June to November, when waters are warm and pressure is high. In
the
Pacific ocean it can occur year-round.

The hurricane is made up of three different parts. The eye, the eye wall, and
spiral
rain bands. The eyes is the center of the hurricane, and is produced by
spiraling of the storm.
Made up of air slowly sinking. It is the lowest surface pressure and warmest
temperature aloft.
The next area is the eye wall. The area that surrounds the wall is the eye
wall. The eye wall is
made up of air that is rising due to many updrafts and downdrafts. It has the
highest surface
winds of the storm. The last part of the hurricane is Spiral rain bands.
Spiral rain bands are bands
of heavy showers that move inward toward the storms center.
There are many differences between a Tropical depression, tropical storm,
typhoon, and a hurricane. A Tropical storm is the storm that builds up into
the hurricane and
typhoon A Tropical storm is the storm that builds up into the hurricane and
typhoon. Hurricanes
and Tropical storms occur in the Atlantic oceans, however Tropical storms
occur in both the
Atlantic and the Pacific. Typhoons, on the other hand, occur only in the
Pacific. Tropical
depression forms in the ocean to build u to a Tropical storm. A Tropical
storm is the storm that
builds up into the hurricane and typhoon. Hurricanes and Tropical storms
occur in the Atlantic
oceans, however Tropical storms occur in both the Atlantic and the Pacific.
Typhoons, on the
other hand, occur only in the Pacific. The number of all these are increasing
every year. This year
there are more than 11 names hurricanes, and 3 or more major ones predicted.
.
The most deadly hurricane was the Bangladesh cyclone of 1970, it killed more
than
300,000 people. The costliest had been Hurricane Andrew in 1992, it cost more
than 25 billion
dollars. The most intense storm was Typhoon Forrest, depended 10 millibars in
under 24 hours.
In one day winds increased from 120 kilometers per hour to 277 in one day.
Hurricanes, typhoons, and tropical storms are all alike in some ways, but
different in
others. They all are terrible forces of nature that have their own way of
contributing to this world.
Even though they may do terrible things to this earth, it does it for a
reason.
