Israel Essay, Research Paper
Looking Back and Analyzing
The United States is looking to help out Israel in as many ways as possible since it is one of the few Mid East nations that are democratic instead of monarch or a dictatorship. The United States?? best interest in helping Israel can be seen as a way of promoting democracy since Israel is a democratic state. Israel is a stable and democratic ally to the United States. The U.S. is able to depend on Israel rather than its Arab neighbors, who do not share the common values of democracy. The foreign policy U.S. has on Israel is like teamwork. For example, if Israel needs help, the United States is willing to be of assistance. If the United States has a crisis, Israel will lend a hand.
The major issue that is going on right now is the peace talks between Israel and Syria. What does this issue have to do with the United States and why is the U.S. spending time and money on this problem to aid Israel? The answer is simple. It is because we are looking after, not only the benefit of Israel, but the benefit of the United States as well. By supporting Israel and helping out with its problems in the Mid East, the U.S. creates a partnership with Israel. It is showing the Arab nations that they should recognize Israel as a nation and respect it. The major goal of Israel is to succeed in peace talks with Syria, but more importantly, to make peace with its neighbors. There has been too much bloodshed because of ethnic difference and the occupation of land. Now, Israel must realize what is more important: Disputing over land that once belonged to other nations like the Golan Heights, the Gaza Strip, and West Bank, or having the opportunity to make peace with its neighbors by negotiation and peace talking. The choices are difficult since Israel is taking risks and giving up land for peace. The United States?? role is to minimize the risk. Peace has a price and Israel realizes that.
The United States has been serving as a mediator, like a referee in a ball game. The U.S. listens and talks with both Syria and Israel to understand each other??s needs and interests. Then they organize and have suggestions for both countries. This is acceptable to Israel and Syria since both sides are able to communicate and than resolve problems through the United States. Since tension has been high between the two nations for so long, it is bet that the U.S. serve a go between. If Israel is successful in negotiating with Syria, than they will show gratitude towards U.S.
