Is Singapore a Model for the West?

Singapore has definitely made the most out of their location and their small size. But would their lifestyle and economic management work for other countries? This is the question that can only be answered by looking to the dedication and discipline of the citizens and leaders. Singapore?s leader Lle Kuan Yew has made the country what it is today. He promoted savings, discipline, hard work, and education, to open the economy to foreign competition, while developing countries focus on the individual rights. The drive that keeps Singapore from going down hill is the countries lack of corruption. The average person is family-oriented, conservative and focuses on money and security. They work hard and abide by the law considering that if they don?t there are some definite harsh penalties. For example, littering ($625), failing to flush a public toilet ($94), or eating on the subway ($312). Singapore does not sale anymore gum and they have had over 500 people convicted of illegally smoking in public. Not having many of these freedoms are perfectly fine for most citizens because it is mainly a nation o immigrants form countries of which have crazy history. Taking all of these characteristics in to consideration allows Singapore to establish this type of country under this type of economy.
