Not All Heroes Wear Nikes

Mother Theresa was born in 1910 on August the 27. She is well known by many for her love and caring for other people. She healed the ill, clothed and sheltered the poor, and feed the hungry. Not only is Mother Teresa a great person she is an excellent role model for others. Many have missed her ever since her death on September 5, 1997. She died at the age of 87 from several severe heart attacks and old age.

Mother Theresa was brought up in a Catholic home. With her father involved in politics and a strict mother, she still had a very close family. She was born the last of three and only at the age of nine her father passed away. Mother Theresa being a very spiritual person decided to become a nun at the age of eighteen. On May 23. 1929 she became a novice and changed her name from Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu to Mother Theresa. Mother Theresa always did very well in school and attended a secondary school in 1939, after that she went on to Public schooling.

On May 14, 1937 she took her final vows as a nun and became a principal at St. Mary’s for seventeen years. Later, while on a train, she said she had received a message from God. “ to serve him among the poorest of poor.” She quit her job as a principal and in 1950 she founded the order of Missionaries of Charity. In 1952 she found “ Pure Heart”, a home for the dying, followed the next year by her first orphanage. In 1983 she started having heart attacks. In 1989 she has a secondary and nearly fatal attack. In 1990 she announced her intention to resign. In 1997 on March 13 she stepped down as head of order.

In Mother Theresa’s lifetime she had touched so many people and hearts. She was awarded several awards. In 1962 she won her first prize for her humanitarian work the Padma Shri award for distinguished service. In 1979 she won the Nobel Peace Prize. Along with many others, Mother Theresa will always be loved by the thousands and never forgotten.
