Reaons Not To Ratify The Constitution Essay, Research Paper
The first line in the United States Constitution is we the people. The purpose of our constitution is to put power into the hands of the people; to let the people be responsible for their actions and their votes. In the constitution, we put power into the hands of congress, into the hands of the courts and into the hands of the president; no where do we put power into the hands of the people, or state the people s rights and duties as citizens in this country. We state what each part of government is for, and what they are to do specifically; no where do we state the purpose of the people. We need to have a bill of Rights in the Constitution, to state the rights of the people. To state what the people are not allowed to do, what they have rights to do.
The two houses of congress have great power, and should answer to the people. The congress makes the laws of our land and laws for the people, but doesn t answer to the people. The Senate is elected by the state legislature, and therefore answer to the state legislature. The congress has such great power, they are the people who try the president and others in cases of impeachment. Since, the congress answers to the government , and not the people, they are likely to become corrupt. They will then be able to do whatever they like with the liberties and rights of the people.
To make navigational and commerce laws, the congress only needs a majority vote. The northern states have more representatives in the congress than do the southern states. Since, the needs of the south and the north are completely different when it comes to agriculture, the north will benefit from the commerce laws more so than the south will because of the lack of representatives in congress. The outcomes will favor the north so much that the south may lose much money, and much power. The point of the constitution is to upheld the rights of the people, and to keep the government as fair as possible. The constitution is not doing what it sat out to do. And because the constitution is not doing what it should, we the people of the United States, need to change the Constitution.
Everyone seems to be unhappy about the wording of parts of this constitution. No one is completely satisfied with the constitution as it now stands. Not even all the delegates of the constitution were happy with the constitution when they signed it; many of them objected to the basic principles of the constitution. Why should we not demand, and expect perfection out the constitution of the United States, a document we will be living by for the rest our lives and the lives of generations to come?
