Idun was a very important part of the gods life and survival . “The goddess of Spring, or rejuvenation and the wife of Bragi, the god of poetry. She was the keeper
of the magic apples of immortality, which the gods must eat to preserve their youth
(Evans & Millard). Without the assistance of Idun’s golden apples the Aesir’s would have grown old and lived in this condition for eternity. “These apples were of course much desired by other creatures, for instance the giant Thiassi, who once managed to capture Idun along with her apples” (Page).
Scared and threatened by Thiassi’s demands for Iden’s powers, Loki lured her out of the city of Asgard in hopes of receiving his freedom in return. “When, through the
cunning of Loki, the trickster god, she and her apples were seized by the giant Thiassi
and taken to the realm of the giants, the gods quickly began to grow old” (Osborne).
Aged and anxious, the gods awaited Iden’s safe return so they would regain their
youthful beauty. Fortunately, a servant that lived in the city had seen Loki lure Idun over
the bridge and told the gods and goddesses about it. Soon, Loki was captured. “They brought him before Odin who heaped threats on the hapless Loki. ‘I will find Idun and her apples,’ exclaimed the villan. ‘If Freya will lend me her falcon skin, I’ll fly into
Jotunheim and rescue Idun. I swear’ (Crossley-Holland). ” They then forced Loki to rescue Idun, which he did by taking the form of a falcon, changing Idun into a nut (in some sources a sparrow), and flying off with her in his claws” (Encyclopedia Brittanica). Loki found Idun alone and uttered a magic spell, which turned Idun into a nut. He, then, took her into the grasp of his claws and flew away with her. Once Thiassi discovered that Idun was gone he took his falcon skin and began pursuit after Idun and Loki.
The gods and goddesses knew that the faster and stronger falcon would catch
Loki so they all gathered wood to the walls of Asgard. Once Loki(in the form of a
falcon) dove over the city walls the wood was lit and it burned the falcon that was
chasing Loki.
Once Idun was returned to her original form, she fed the anxious gods and
goddesses her golden apples and they regained their long-awaited beauty and youth.
They were extremely gratuitous to Idun for her generosity. They were forever young.
and beautiful after her return to the city of Asgard.

During the course of this project I have learned the benefits of internet searches
because of the scarcity of information on my goddess. I struggled through this project
because I am not truly interested in the subject of mythology. It was difficult for me to
sit down and learn information that I did not believe that I would need in my later years
of life. But I now I realize that I need to expand my knowledge regardless of what I will
use in my latter years of life. An Education is a great tool that should be used as much as
possible.
To make the selection of a topic easier I think that you should provide a list of topics
for your students to select from. I kind of just picked out a subject and I struck out two
times. I finally had to ask for your assistance to select a subject that I would be
successful with. So I think that in order to make this project easier for your students to be
successful in you need to provide a list of gods and goddesses from many different
religions.
