People s lifestyles often reveal and contrast their person philosophies. My uncle Joe, who lives in the States, and my cousin Rob, who lives in Europe have very different attitudes towards medicine. When you talk to a person with definite beliefs in the superiority of one culture, it almost always turn out that this superior culture is his/her own. My uncle is not a very open minded person towards traditional medicine and never admits that other cultures can bring any benefits. My family always argue about all kinds of treatment, beliefs, and diseases when it comes down to medicine. My uncle, who is liberal and very modern, likes change but he has to be convinced that the change will only be for a positive outcome. Rob wants to prove and change Joe s prospective when dealing with medical traditions.

Treatments very from country to country. Rob s favourite way of treatment is acupuncture. This method is very beneficial as it heels all sorts of different sickness. It can be practiced on young children and adults. Joe is not convinced this method works as he says its only very dangerous. He believes that needles can be contaminated and cause very serious disease resulting in death. Rob explains that new needles are used every time and this method has been practiced for centuries and it has been revised and improved over the years. Acupuncture has been tried out by different celebrities including Shaquille O Neil, not only making them feel renewed but also better by at least 50%. Joe thinks this method is old and with our technology today we can heel people with medication such as different pills or drugs and even all sorts of surgical operations. Rob, on the other hand, thinks that pills only destroy the pain for awhile while acupuncture last longer and is just way more efficient.

Beliefs are also a strong issue argued between Joe and Rob. Rob has a strong understanding when it comes to medication. He truly believes that more organic drugs such as different plants and herbs are the healthier way of ending pain. My cousin does not like pills as he says that they have way too many chemicals that are not good for you body. It s all chemistry that can be harmful. Rob says that medicine shouldn t be as much science as it should be art. On the other hand, Joe absolutely disagrees. He claims that with today s technology, drugs are tested out so they only help and not harm in any way. Our technology is so advanced that this beats any sort of traditional method that was practiced long ago. Rob explains that we only rely on technology instead of focusing more on the organic elements of life.

Aids is one of the many diseases that humans have no cure for. The disease is widespread affecting millions of people. Rob states that people nowadays depend on vaccines which in this case don t even help. He believes more experiments and studies should be done. Rob thinks that the cure for this disease is hidden in plants and not human created chemicals. Joe argues that he rather depends on technology for being heeled as its so advanced, it can cure almost anything. Hospitals and doctors nowadays are a great example of advanced technology therefore they have a greater understanding and more knowledge when talking about diseases than ever before. They are working hard to discover all the cures for our aches and pains. Rob understands Joe s view but believes that Chinese medicine is the healthiest way in order to stay healthy.

Health is possibly the most important element in life. With good health, people can function to their fullest capacity. In order to stay healthy people need different methods to treat their illnesses. Rob s argument is quite strong eliminating Joe s opinion. In whichever method you choose to treat your sickness is up to you but always keep in mind that traditional medicine has more pros than cons when comparing modern medicine. I take sides with my cousin as I think more attention should be focused on the organic elements that are not being used.
