My Own Two Feet
As Beverly and her mother and father wait patiently at the Greyhound Bus Station. She hated waiting for the bus, it always seemed as if it forever. All around her she could smell the stench of burning rubber. Apparently Beverly had been invited to spend the summer with her mother s cousin Verna for the summer while attending college in San Francisco, California. Beverly had never been to college and was actually being pressured by her mother not to go in the first place. It was supposed to be a good school though, even though it was a Jr. College named Chuffy. When she finally arrived in San Francisco she went straight to her cousin s house. The whole house was painted bright colors, making it seem more fresh and new. Compared to her house, which happened to be all white! Giving the sense that it was boring and plain, which Beverly seemed to think it, was. The school was even worse Each room was painted a dark green, while the desks where in a triangular form as if it were an elementary class. Besides the schools lack of fashion Beverly had a great time getting to know everyone. If you lived close by (which she did) you could just spend the night at home, but if not the school principles were always willing to rent dorms to those in need of them. Each dorm had a twin size bed and a nightstand right beside it. So clearly they were very small! That is unless you had a room-mate then you were allowed to have a two to three bedroom dorm which are obviously a great deal larger then the one bedroom.
When summer was over she went back home to her mother, but soon after she left Chuffy had sent a letter informing Beverly that they wished her to back next season. Of course her mother preferred her not to, Beverly s father had high spirits and wished her to make her mind up on her own. Therefor Beverly chose to go back in the fall and this time rent a dorm since she was no longer welcome in Verna s home (just uninvited). Instead of actually going to Chaffey Beverly decided to attend Cal. College located in Southern California. At this school they had strict rules one being you had to have a roommate if you wanted a dorm, and of course they assigned them for you.
Beverly luckily ended up with a girl named Claudia, who happened to be a lot like Beverly. Neither of them smoked, both were very insistent on studying and pretty much liked to do the same things in there free time. Each of them had mother s who were listening to their every word, making it easier to understand one another. The only difference that I could see was how Beverly seemed more quiet and predictable.
Through out the whole book Beverly goes back and forth from California to Portland. Always making sure to do the best she can possibly be.
My biography is about a lady named Beverly Clare. A young adult, who fights to have both emotional and physical independence. Basically it tells the story of her life, who she is and what she does. During the novel Beverly meets a great number of men. Some of these men were married, while some just couldn t handle long distant relationships. Luckily Ms. Cleary found her special someone. His name was Clarence and is about the same age as Beverly (one year older never said actual age). Towards the end of the novel Beverly and Clarence get a little serious. They soon start talking about marriage and love, while Beverly s mother pretty much has a heart attack!
Probably, the most exciting event in the book was when Clarence and Beverly first confessed their love for each other. It was out on the balcony of the ballroom entrance. They were leaning over the edge and they just get to talk. Like any other relationship you at some point or another talk about where you are headed, surprisingly they started talking about marriage. All of a sudden Clarence digs into his slack pockets and takes out a cigar ring (piece of paper that holds the wrapping over the cigar before being bought) and places it on her finger. Then says I ll replace this with a real ring some day (suppose to be a proposal).
Beverly of course does not die The story ends when Beverly actually gets a job as a librarian at a school in Yakima, Washington. There she would be paid one hundred and ten dollars a month. As I said before both she and Clarence got married and lived happily ever after. Now Beverly is an author of children s stories. For example the series of Ramona the Pest!
After it explains everything about her mother s cousin s house, I think that she will go to college and then end up not being able to handle it. And who know she might even have to go home. I don t really know if this prediction is correct but I just have a gut feeling something bad is going to happen.
I was wrong about the first prediction, but this time I think that after she gets the note from Chaffey Jr. College saying that they wish for her to come back her mother and father are not going to allow her to leave home again. I think it will happen because whenever Beverly talks about her mother it s as if she feels trapped. Like she can t do anything without disappointing her. Beverly s mother is one of those types of people who want their children to follow in their footsteps (control freak).
