Potato Sugar Concentration Essay, Research Paper
Osmosis is the movement of water molecules across a
partially permeable membrane from a region high water concentration to low
water concentration. A partially permeable membrane is a membrane with tiny
holes in so small that only water molecules can pass through. ?I aim to see
if the difference in concentration of the sugar solution effects the weight of
the potato. ?The key variables: in
this experiment are, the temperatures of the solution, size/weight of potato,
concentration of the solution. ?The dependant variable: is the
size of the potato slice I aim to keep the size at 2cm by 2cm squares. ?The chosen variable: is the
concentration of the sugar solution. The range of concentrations I will use is
0.0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 molar solution. To dilute the concentration to 0.2moles/litre
I will add 16ml of water to 4ml of I molar sucrose solution Etc. ?The method I will
use is, firstly make up the correct molar solution. Then place 20ml of that in
petri dish. Weigh the slice of potato which s of uniform size and add it to the
solution. It shall be left for a measured amount of time, which I determined to
be 15minutes. Do this three times for every concentration. ?
