Beneficial Insects

Insects have been roaming the earth for millions of years. They have adapted to every climate and terrain on earth. No matter what we do they will always be amongst us. This is not necessarily a bad thing; insects are actually beneficial to us. Insects help pollinate our crops each year. Yet, at the same time they can destroy a whole crop in no time flat. This is why biological control is a natural way to take beneficial insects, to kill the pests.

Biological control is a safe process of pest control; both for your family and the environment. You should first find out what insects are affecting your crops. Next you must find out that insects natural enemy. Then you must do the math to figure out how large of a surface area you need the insects for; and how many insects you must purchase. After you purchase them you may finally release the insects into the effected area; then problem solved.

One helpful insect that I would like to recognize is the ladybug. Ladybugs can eat over 5,000 aphids over their lifetime of a year.

A second beneficial insect is the green lacewing. Green lacewings are suggested to help control many pests, both outdoors and indoors. Lacewings come ready to hatch eggs, and begin eating pests. Third, spiders, they are a predatory insect. They catch their food by spinning a web and having the prey walk right into it.

Since 1883, in California to control the imported cabbageworm, biological control has been used. To this day it is one of the safest and well-known forms of pest control.
