4. Should the method of electing a president be further amended? If so, how?

The constitution was like the bible to most politicians back then. They went by it like the Ten Commandments. So of course that is where they would turn to when they were in a sticky situation. And that is the reason that most people hated the government.

Since Andrew Jackson did not win by the certain percentage of the electoral votes, they had to go to the House of Representatives. Since Clay got out of the running early, he went to get a spot in the house. He voted for Adams. Then Adams made him his secretary of state. People thought this was a corrupt bargain . This is the part of the election where things got mad.

I think the constitution should be further amended to accommodate this kind of a bind. I believe that Andrew Jackson should have won. Not that I think of him of a qualified person, but he had more votes. This should have made him president. I think that the constitution should say that the president at that time should choose and he should consider the person with the most votes first and then think about second place. Then this has to go through the house. If the house does not agree, it has to have a 2/3 vote to change the president s answer. Then if it is not changed, then the president gets his choice. And another thing, the other candidates can be in no place to vote who should become president.

Having this new rule will settle the conflicts if this sort of thing happens again. I think everyone will benefit. So, I think the election method should be further amended.
