Canada is a land of great diversity and variety. With a population of 28 000 and the second largest country in the world, it has many cultural, physical and climatic differences.

Canada is diversified when it comes to the ethnic and racial makeup. Over 36 percent of the population consist of people from British backgrounds. Over 32 percent consist of French origin. The French-speaking is mainly located in Quebec, which makes up about 78 percent of the population. There are also many other ethnic varieties such as Ukrainian, Polish and German.

The physical characteristics change from coast to coast. If you were to fly from St. John?s, Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia, you would see a great change in the landforms. From snow peaked mountains, to flat farming lands. From small hills and valleys to towering, young Rocky Mountains, Canada has everything. You would pass through five time zones and fly over many of Canada?s famous lakes and rivers. Canada has the largest amount of lakes and inland than any other country in the world.

Canada also varies in temperature and weather. Climate affects everyone in the country. Drought in the Prairies can raise the cost of bread in the Maritimes. A severe storm in southeastern Canada can slow rail traffic, causing a rise in perishable items. From flying across Canada, you would notice the wind start to die and the temperature to rise. Newfoundland is one of the windiest provinces in Canada and New Brunswick can reach high temperatures.
