May 22, 1921Sandy s Journal Dear Kitty, Something really big and I mean BIG happened today.It s is almost too incredible to believe. My fingers are still shaking as I try and write. But I ve got to get this down because whatever happens, these pages will be proof that I was at this amazing place.I found a giant club in the downtown district. I mean, it was astonishing. I mean, really, really SECRET!At first I was scared the place was crowded with many different types of people. There were policemen drinking there too!! I mean during a time of prohibition, speakeasies need to watch out for tattletale people.Who could be the owner of such an exiting club? No one I know, that s for sure. The first thing I did was get a membership to the club with Betty, my best friend. Hey, Betty, I said to her. Get yourself a drink. We ve got to forget and just let loose.

When we finally were drunk, we were able to forget about our husbands, who never came home from the war. After a little while, I took a look around, noticing that Betty had vanished from my side. She was leaning against the dark wall; leaning against someone and giving him a kiss. When I slurringly questioned her actions, Don t do no dead person no harm! Betty declared.I wasn t sure if I agreed, but I said okay anyway. As I danced the night away doing the Charleston, I decided that I had had enough of this craziness. I had forgotten enough for one night. Tommorow will be another day of rememberance, and i ll be fine until it happens the next time!
