The Abilene Paradox

The Abilene Paradox is something I see when I am with my friends, but never with the types of jobs I have worked so far. I have seen the paradox when my friends and I decide to go to a movie, which is a lot like the way this story goes. We end up trying to blame someone for picking the movie if the movie was a bad one. A lot of the time, this situation is unavoidable unless all of the people are in a group and decide on a movie as one.

The only way to avoid the Abilene Paradox is to always make a decision in a group. Always gather the people that help choose which decision is to be made, and take steps. It would be best if meetings were planned so all individuals can attend. I would suggest to my next employer that all of the necessary people are present, to make a effective decision. Another great part about getting together to decide, which was not discussed in the excerpt, is with more people, someone might have a better suggestion or answer than the one at hand.
