Early Roman art reflected previous civilizations, but astime passed, the Romans developed an artistic style completelytheir own. One very unique aspect of the Roman civilization, which setup art, was the use of public baths. At first these public bathsconsisted only of dressing room suites and bathing chambers. However these baths began to incorporate intricate decoratedlibraries, lecture halls and open forums for the public to lookat statues of their gods. In these chambers the walls werecovered with intricate mosaics and great tapestries, all of whichdemonstrated the Roman obsession with perfection. In many ancient ruins you can see the popular engravingsshowing successful military strikes and defeat over opposingarmies and civilizations. The Romans stone work wasn t limited to

the walls of their buildings. They also decorated the lids ofstone coffins, the lids would have a portrait of the personinside. White marble was basically the stone in the making Romanstone sculptures, though limestone was also used because it wascheap. The Romans were busy with their time making mosaics, and hadmade up four styles. The first style was encrustation, the secondwas perspective, the third fantastic, and the fourth known asimpossible fantastic. These are some of the most amazingaspects the Roman art has to offer. The Romans had also developed many other forms of art, suchas floor painting, jewelry making, metalworking, coin making, andglass blowing. All of which obviously display the strong Romanpride.
