The Great Gatspy Essay

Can Anyone imagine being married but not really being in love

with that person and only staying because of what you have in common. In

the book The Great Gatspy by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Tom and Daisy

Buchanan are alike in many ways and that is why there going to stay

married to one another. The things that Tom and Daisy have in common are

they both wish for better things, they both love someone else, and they both

left town so they didn t have any memories of there past or what did

happen.

Tom and Daisy want to have better things in there life. Daisy

goes over to Gatspy s house and he shows her all of the different clothes he

has and Daisy just feel the clothes and just starts to cry (Fitzgerald, 98).

Tom and Daisy s house seemed different than everyone else s house. They

even had a house that most people looked up to. ….Daisy s house had

always seemed to him more mysterious and gay than other houses….

(Fitzgerald,60). Gatspy wishes he could give Daisy everything by marrying

her but he knows Tom can give her most of the things he wants to give her.

…… He knew that he had lost part of it, the freshest and that best, forever

(Fitzgerald, 161). Daisy wishes she could go to the big parties that Gatspy

throws

Tom and Daisy were seeing other people at the same time and

they both suspect that each other are seeing other people. Tom was seeing

a lady named Myrtle Wilson. Tom cared for Myrtle a great deal. When myrtle

died Tom was so shocked he couldn t believe it. He walked quickly over to

Wilson standing in front of him seized him firmly by the upper arms

(Fitzgerald, 147). Daisy s friends suspected something was going on with

Tom and another woman. Tom s got some woman in New York (Fitzgerald,

19). Daisy would get frustrated when some woman called for Tom because

she knew who it was. Then suddenly she threw her napkin on the table and

excused herself and went into the house (Fitzgerald, 19). Daisy started

seeing her past love Gatspy again. Gatspy loved Daisy a lot and he wished

he could go back in time and change the past and it would be all better. I m

going to fix everything just the way it was before (Fitzgerald, 117). Daisy

began to go over to Gatspy s house almost every night of the week. Gatspy

even stopped having all the parties so he could see Daisy. Daisy comes over

quite often- in the afternoons (Fitzgerald, 120). Tom didn t like Gatspy

because he knew what was going on with Daisy and Gatspy. I suppose the

latest thing is to sit back and let Mr. Nobody from Nowhere make love to

your wife (Fitzgerald, 137).

Tom and Daisy left town so they didn t have any memories of

there past experiences. Daisy had to leave the West Egg to forget about the

accident that night when she was driving with Gatspy. Well, first Daisy

turned away from the woman toward the other car, and then she lost her

nerve and turned back. the second my hand reached the wheel I felt the

shock- it must have killed her instantly (Fitzgerald,151). Tom had to leave

because of the memory of Myrtle being killed. In a little while I heard a low

husky sob and saw the tears overflowing down his face (Fitzgerlad,149).

Tom was so frustrated that the person who hit Myrtle didn t even stop his

car. The God Damn coward……..He didn t even stop his car

(Fitzgerald,149)

Many people wouldn t would stay with someone that was seeing

someone else behind there back. But it would take being in love and having

something in common with that person to want to stay. Most people wouldn t

stay if they weren t in love but what would someone do if it happened to

them? Even if their first love came back into their life most people would just

get up and leave for there first love. But Daisy stood strong in her

relationship with Tom. Someone would have to be a really great person in

order to do that. What do you think someone would do?
