Without any doctors, nurses, surgeons, or even physical therapists the world as we know it would be a complete disaster. Members of hospitals are what makes a difference in the world today. The people that work everyday to help the sick or even to save them are heros of this world. There will always be a need for nursing. There will always be injured people and sick people so there will always be a demand for nurses.
There are many responsibilities and duties that nurses must complete. A few duties include giving patients daily bathes, feeding them proper food, helping them exercise, giving shots, drawing and giving blood, changing diapers, and giving catheters. Nurses also have many responsibilities such as making sure all used needles are thrown away in a biohazard box, remembering to give patients medicine, washing their hands after dealing with each patient, and filling out each patient’s charts. Every nurse that works in a hospital knows and understands the precautions and safety rules that they are to follow. For example, if a patient has some kind of a microorganism inside of them and the nurse dealing with the patient doesn’t wash their hands they could spread the microorganism into the next patient they deal with. If a nurse violates a safety rule they could be fired, depending on how serious.
There are many different types of nurses. A few examples of nurses are surgical nurses that assist doctors during surgery, neonatal nurses care how newborns and teach mothers how to feed babies, obstetric nurses deliver babies, and nurse anesthetist work with anesthesiologists to sedate patients. To be a nurse you don’t just have to give shots or draw blood. There are a number of options such as working with babies, mental health patients, the operating room, or you can even work inside your patients home. Being a nurse can be demanding on some people because you pretty much are on your feet all day. Nurses have to be in good physical shape. They must also have an upbeat disposition and the ability to stay calm in emergency situations. For example, if this is a mental health patient who is wandering the hospital you have to know the correct procedures to getting them back into their room safely. Most importantly, nursed must listen well and be able to speak clearly so that they can give directions to patients and aides.
The years of schooling you need to go through after high school to become a nurse is around four years. In nursing you can get an associates degree in two years, a bachelors degree in four years, a master’s degree in six years, and a Ph.D. degree after eight years. Most of the classes that need to be taken are classes such as biology, chemistry, English, psychology, human relations, nursing classes, and basic math.
The entry level salary for a nurse is very reasonable. They make around $32,000 their first year. Nurses also get raises each year of two and a half percent of their salary. You can make around $50,000 after five years to ten years. The average nurse works between forty and sixty hours a week and makes around twenty-two dollars an hour unless they work for an agency where you can make up to thirty-five hours an hour without benefits. The highest nursing position is a chief nurse, who makes around $85,000 a year, and the most basic type of nurse is a floor nurse. Promotions take place depending on college degrees or the amount of experience that you have achieved. Being promoted just goes to show that hard work, determination, and a college education does pay off.
There are many places all over the world that you can find a job if you want to be a nurse. You can work in hospitals, medical centers, clinics, doctors offices, inside of your patients home, or for agencies. Nurses are needed everywhere in the United States. People are always sick, dying, or getting injured. The types of benefits that the nursing profession offers include medical, dental, and optical benefits.
A career in the nursing field or even any job in the medical field is very demanding and it is not a job for everyone. To be a nurse you have to be willing to give one hundred and ten percent of yourself to your job, your duties, and your patients. It takes a lot of dedication to get through the schooling and everyday that you are on the job you learn new things that if you don’t know or pay attention to you could end up hurting your patient even more and you could lose you job in return.
