April Morning Essay, Research Paper

Title: April Morning

Author: Howard fast

1)Adam Cooper, a young man that fought the British at the age of fifteen. During that battle he witnessed the tragic death of his father. From the death of his father he learned to be a man and knew he would have to take care of his family. His father never once showed him that he loved him by words or actions, until the night before he died. His father talked to him and put his arm around him. Until that night his father had never showed him love. So he also learned that his father did love him after all.

2)Moses Cooper, father of Adam, was a very strict father, he was always making Adam work and never once showed compassion towards him, until the night before his death. He was shot in the chest and killed during the battle against the British. What Moses learned is that his son was now a man, and that if he died that morning, he would be able to support the family. He learned this while they talked the night before his death.

3)Solomon Chandler, a sixty-one year old man who helped Adam out while he was hiding from the British. They met when Adam was running from the British in the woods and ran into Solomon. Solomon grabbed him, at first Adam was scared and tried to get away but Solomon convinced him that he was not going to harm him. Solomon told Adam that he would have to wait a while to be able to walk back to his house. So Solomon comforted him and made him feel better about his fathers death, he also fed him. Solomon learned that the British were here, because before Adam told him he didn’t know until he saw them marching. He also learned a lot about Adam and about what happened during the battle that his father was killed.

B)

My favorite character in this book was Adam Cooper. He was a young man that fought against the British at the age of 15. During that battle he witnessed the death of his father right in front of him. Out of all of the characters in this book I chose him because I have the most respect for. The reason why I say that is because I will never have to go through such a rough life like he did. Growing up he had a very strict father. He was always doing chores, and everything he did it seemed like it wasn’t good enough for his father. He was always upset about that and thought that his father didn’t love him. This continued for a while. His dad always went to town meetings and his dad would never go, saying he wasn’t man enough yet. He finally let him start going, and they found out that the British were coming soon, so they all had to get there guns and wait for them. All of the men went out to fight, and the mothers and children stayed in. Adam’s father allowed him to go fight with him. Before they all met to get ready to fight the British his father talked to him, and said he was now a man, and was very proud of him. This was the only compassion that his father ever really showed to him. This made Adam feel good and he realized that his father really did love him. It is sad that less than 24 hours after his dad told him that he was shot and killed right in front of Adam. I really felt bad for him after reading this, it is aggravating that things happen that way. It seemed that after that Adam and his father would of had a totally different relationship after that, for the better. Adam handled his death very well. He stepped up and comforted his little brother Levi, like he was his father. He knew that he was going to have to be the man of his family, like the father, and he did. That is the one thing that I respected him the most for out of everything he did.

C)

The one event that stands out to me in being the most important one is when his father talks to him about how if something were to happen to him he would have a heavy burden, and when he said that he was glad to see him out there with him. He put his hand on his shoulder while he said that , then said god bless you. This was the closest that his father had ever came to a gesture of real affection. This made Adam feel really good. The reason why I say this is the most important moment on the book is because it let Adam know that his dad really did love him. It was sad to see that after that his farther died the next morning during the battle against the British. If his dad didn’t talk to him that night, I don’t think that Adam would of been able to handle his death as well as he did. Knowing that his dad really did love him made him take it more like a man. If his dad had not said that to him, he would not of took his death as well. He would of been more upset not knowing if his dad loved him or not. Knowing that he never once said I love you, or showed affection to him would of made him more confused and knowing if he loved him or not. That is why that is the most important part in the book. It made him handle the loss better.

D)

The main idea of this book was that you may not think you can win because you are out numbered, the truth is that you can win if you believed. This was proved in the book when they came back in beat the British in the battle of Lexington. The had already been beaten by them once, and they were out numbered, but they believed they could. And they beat them.

E)

1) This book made me realize that I don’t have it so bad and I should be grateful with what I have.

2) This book made me wonder about the lifestyles of people around 1775. And what kind of person I would be if I grew up during that day in age.

3) This book made me believe that some bad things that happen for a reason. Like when before they battled the British his father gave him that speech that proved that he did love him. If he wasn’t about to go into that battle and know he might die, he wouldn’t of told him that. That happened for a reason, the reason was so Adam knew that his farther did love him.

4) This book made me hope that I will never have to go through anything that he went through. I wouldn’t be able to take it as well as he did.
